Even though the Cosby Show is around 20 years old, it's still one of the best sit-coms ever. Bill Cosby is hilarious - a comic genius. His reactions to events are so spontaneous and creative. I haven't seen another comic quite like him. Best of all, the show's plots are both family-friendly and funny. Unlike modern sit-coms, the characters don't curse and talk about sex every other scene. Rather the episodes are centered around family dramas that are realistic but always resolved well. The cast includes everybody from Phylicia Rashad as the tough and very intelligent Mrs. Huxtable, to the young and adorable Rudy. This makes the show accessible to a wide range of audiences. I am glad these finally came out on DVD. I hope one day to share this treasure with my children.

I remember telling my fiancee and her family that HBO was bringing back their Half Hour Comedy show "One Night Stand", that was a regular feature back in the 1980's. Little did I know that we would fine such an amazing and talented comedian. Louis CK is quick, funny and so hilarious. We had to watch this special three times to catch all the jokes we missed because we could not stop laughing. Anytime I get into an argument with my friends and family, we end it with "Shut up and eat your french fries! Also try to catch his earlier "One Night Stand" from 1996 that is shown on HBO Comedy. Just as funny!

Now he?s becoming a household name in his own right. Filmed live and uncensored before a raucous One Night Stand audience, CK riffs on the absurdities of married life and countless other everyday observations with a skewed vision and often apocalyptic sense of wisdom that is earning him a cult following among fans of standup. See why he made Entertainment Weekly?s ?It List,? and was selected by Variety in 2000 as one of the ?Ten Comics to Watch.? Monk: Season Seven Review

Monk: Season Seven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Quirky detective Adrian Monk has only one more season of obsessive-compulsive detection left. Start mourning now, because it's still one of the best shows on TV.
In the meantime, the seventh season of his dramedy/mystery series holds up well and shows little signs of its age. It's got everything you'd expect of "Monk" -- new phobias, personal crises (shot in the leg!), lots of hilarious writing, bizarre mysteries, and the celebration of Mr. Monk's one-hundredth case.
Monk is having more trouble than ever after Dr. Kroger unexpectedly dies, and the neighbor girl starts playing the piano. So he decides to buy the house of an old man who recently fell down the stairs. Unfortunately, some creepy people want to get their greedy hands on whatever is hidden in that house -- and they'll destroy his dream-house to do it.
Unfortunately (for Monk) it's the least weird case he encounters this season. He has to deal with (in no particular order): a murdered homeless man, miraculous fountains, lottery murders, a stolen bike at a biotech lab, submarine "suicides," exploding grills, protecting a boxer, the impossible murder of Monk's annoying neighbor, and a manly-bonding football game with Stottlemeyer.
And Monk struggles with his own problems, with the help of his new therapist Dr. Bell (Hector Elizondo) and his assistant Natalie (Traylor Howard: bad hypnosis, a kindly old lady, a crush, a looming physical, and a half-brother escaped from prison. And Monk tries to stop the parking lot where Trudy died from being demolished, only for the council-woman involved to be found murdered in the bay...
Most quirky TV series don't survive past the first few episodes, or the first season at most. So while the seventh season of "Monk" has a few bumps in the road (such as "Mr Monk and the Bully," where he comes across as rather too vindictive), it still has the right balance of humor, poignancy and brain-twisters.
The whole season is pretty much a solid string of enjoyably complex murder mysteries -- baffling crimes, obscure clues, and a few new eccentricities for Monk. Despite all the murder and bittersweet moments, the episodes are peppered with some comedy as well (Randy watching the football game upside-down in the stairwell) and plenty of solid dialogue ("It's a square tomato. You're doing the Lord's work!").
This season Monk's biggest problem is his biggest phobia of all -- his fear of being left by everyone, whether it's a mother substitute or his beloved shrink. Fortunately Shalhoub has the skill to keep his tragicomic character from seeming cartoonish -- good-hearted, socially clueless (see "guy banter") and trapped in the cage of his own fears and sorrow. The only flaw is that for some reason, Monk tends to be a wee bit more mean-spirited here.
Traylor Howard does a solid job as Monk's assistant Elizondo is quite good as the replacement for Dr. Kroger, and Jason Gray-Stanford continues to be hilarious as Randy ("Ergo the killer. Is that Hungarian?"). Ted Levine gets to show different side to Stottlemeyer, when the longtime cop becomes a monk (yes, the religious kind) and goofs off at tailgate parties. Not in the same episode, of course.
There's only one more season of "Monk" to go, but the seventh is a heckuva penultimate chapter, with plenty of befuddling mysteries and strange problems.

Tony Shalhoub returns to his acclaimed three-time Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe-winning role for a stellar seventh season in the quirky and irreverent detective show, Monk. Join him and phenomenal guest stars Brad Garrett, David Strathairn, Eric McCormack, Sarah Silverman, Hector Elizando, John Turturro and more in 16 hilarious, unforgettable episodes – including the all-star 100th episode, \'Mr. Monk\'s 100th Case!" Despite his overwhelming fear of germs, crowds, small places and almost everything else, Monk proves once again why he\'s the only man for the case and why mystery lovers "...can't deny how amusihg it all still is..." Gilligan's Island: The Complete Third Season (1964) Review

Gilligan's Island: The Complete Third Season (1964)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Gilligan's Island," while never a hit with the critics, is beloved today by millions of fans. I don't remember when the series was on during primetime, but I fondly recall coming home from school to catch it in the afternoons. This DVD set covers the final season of the short-lived series and it contains some of my favorite episodes. Gilligan thinking that he's a vampire, Gilligan being hunted by a big game hunter, MaryAnn thinking that she's Ginger, a witch doctor casting spells on the castaways, and many more memorable episodes. My all time favorite is included here - "The Producer" with Phil Silvers as the over-the-top movie producer Harold Hecuba.
The entire episode list follows:
#1 - Up at Bat - After being bitten by a bat, Gilligan is convinced that he is turning into a vampire.
#2 - Gilligan vs. Gilligan - Gilligan can't convince the others that there is a Russian spy on the island and he looks just like him!
#3 - Pass The Vegetables Please - Gilligan finds a crate of radioactive vegetable seeds that give the castaways superhuman powers.
#4 - The Producer - Phil Silvers guest stars as Harold Hecuba and the castaways try to impress him by staging their own version of "Hamlet."
#5 Voodoo - A witch doctor makes dolls in the likeness of the castaways and casts spells on them.
#6 Where There's A Will - Mr. Howell decides to revise his will and leave everything to his fellow castaways. When they throw him a party, he thinks that they are out to kill him.
#7 Man With A Net - John McGiver guest stars as Lord Beasley, a butterfly collector in pursuit of the elusive pussycat swallowtail.
#8 Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow - Gilligan and the Skipper mysteriously go bald and decide to live in a cave to avoid the stares of the others.
#9 - Ring Around Gilligan - Vito Scotti guest stars as mad scientist Dr. Boris Balinkoff who controls the castaways with a hypnotic ring.
#10 - Topsy-Turvy - Gilligan is having vision problems and there are headhunters on the island.
#11 - The Invasion - Gilligan finds an attache case filled with top secret files and has a dream that is Agent 014.
#12 - The Kidnapper - Don Rickles guest stars Norbert Wiley, a kidnapper who holds the women for ransom.
#13 - And Then There Were None - The castaways are vanishing one by one and Gilligan, thinking he is responsible, has a dream that he is Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde.
#14 - All About Eva - Tina Louise has a field day as the drab Eva Grubb, who gets a beauty make-over from the girls and ends up looking just like Ginger.
#15 - Gilligan Goes Gung Ho - Law and order is needed on the island so Skipper becomes the sheriff and Gilligan his deputy.
#16 - Take A Dare - Strother Martin guest stars as George Barkley, who is trying to win $10,000 by surviving on a deserted island. Only this island isn't deserted!
#17 - Court-Martial - The Skipper is distraut when he hears that he is at fault for the Minnow shipwreck.
#18 - The Hunter - Rory Calhoun plays big game hunter Jonathan Kinkaid, who wants to hunt humans.
#19 - Lovey's Secret Admirer - Mr. Howell is sending his wife anonymous love letters.
#20 - Our Vines Have Tender Grapes - Denny Miller guest stars as Tongo, the Ape Man, who is actually an actor vying for a movie role.
#21 - Gilligan's Personal Magnetism - Gilligan becomes invisible.
#22 - Splashdown - The Professor calculates that a space shuttle will soon be flying over the island. The castaways prepare to get their attention.

#26 - Slave Girl - Gilligan saves the life of a native girl and now she wants to be his slave for life.
#27 - It's A Bird, It's A Plane - A jet pack floats into the lagoon - the Professor thinks that there is enough fuel in it to get one of them back to Hawaii.

Of all the Red Green tapes available I think this is the best. The "Night before Christmas" take off is hilarious. Plus, for those of us who would prefer for "Adventures with Bill" to go away, there is little to NO Bill in this one!
The "one horse open sleigh" is great too!

I Spy - Season 3 (1967) Review

I Spy - Season 3 (1967)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the last season of I Spy. It featured a lot of upcoming actors (Gene Hackman, Richard Kiel), and some that were well known (Will Geer, Andrew Duggan, Jim Backus). Locations were in Greece, Morocco, and mostly Mexico and USA. Still, another great season, with some excellent scripts and a few good ones from Robert Culp. A great series. Cool, comedic rapport between Culp and Cosby. Loved the series and looking forward to watching it again, after 40 years. See my reviews for Seasons 1 and 2.
Here's the synopsis of each episode for Season 3:
Let's Kill Karlovassi -- Kelly and Scotty balk at their new assignment -- to assassinate a Greek man who turns out to be a Soviet agent playing a dangerous game of double-cross. Filmed in Greece.
The Beautiful Children -- Kelly and Scotty run into more trouble than they'd bargained for when they try to help an agent who rescues kidnapped Greek children from a Communist country. Filmed in Casablanca and Greece.
Laya -- Scotty is ordered to cultivate an African woman to learn about armament shipments to her country, while her boss demands that she manipulate Scotty.
The Medarra Block -- In Marrakesh, Kelly and Scotty acquire an ancient cube bearing inscriptions that contain the secret plans for a revolt against the government. Filmed in Morocco.
Philotimo -- A young Bulgarian music prodigy convinces Kelly and Scotty to help him defect -- then accuses them of kidnapping him. Filmed in Greece.
The Honourable Assassins -- Kelly and Scotty agree to help an Arab woman get her father, who has been marked for death, to Marrakesh to retrieve a fortune. Filmed in Morocco.
Now You See Her, Now You Don't -- The murder of a fellow agent Kelly recruited puts Robinson and Scott on the trail of a British mathematician who is being held for ransom by Greek gangsters. Filmed in Greece.
Red Sash of Courage -- Kelly and Scotty are assigned to locate an enemy base on the Greek-Yugoslav border that is interfering with American flights -- a mission complicated by a Greek who thinks Kelly has sullied his daughter's honour. Filmed in Greece.
The Seventh Captain -- Kelly and Scotty have to find out what connection exists between a Greek colleague and the mysterious disappearance of six other agents. Filmed in Greece.
Apollo -- Scott goes undercover at NASA to discover a saboteur, and the woman hired to pose as his ex-wife is kidnapped. Filmed in USA.
Oedipus at Colonnus -- Kelly and Scotty encounter an aging Arab spiritual leader who is, apparently, assassinated while attending an important meeting. Filmed in Morocco.
The Lotus Eater -- Scotty must find out why Kelly has dropped out of the spy business and sought refuge on a Greek isle. Filmed in Greece.
An American Empress -- While trying to return a ring to a Chinese woman they met in San Francisco, Kelly and Scotty discover that she is the Empress of China (France Nuyen) -- and an unwitting pawn of the Red Chinese.
Home to Judgment -- Running for their lives from ruthless killers, Scotty and a wounded Kelly seek refuge on a farm belonging to the latter's aunt and uncle. Filmed in USA. Stars Will Geer from The Walton's. Written by Robert Culp.
Anyplace I Hang Myself Is Home --A psychiatrist has Kelly and Scotty reminiscing about their experiences as spies-in-training to find out why Scotty has this sudden urge to kill himself. Filmed in USA.
Tag, You're It -- A Soviet agent who has infiltrated The Department's training facility begins killing off trainees -- and putting the blame on Kelly and Scotty. Filmed in USA.
A Few Miles West of Nowhere -- Kelly and Scotty investigate the murder of a government employee in a small town whose inhabitants are hostile towards a proposed atomic power plant. Filmed in USA. Stars Richard Kiel (Mr. Jaws) and Andrew Duggan.
This Guy Smith -- The search for a guy called Smith results in Kelly becoming the chief suspect in the apparent murder of a young woman. Filmed in USA.
Turnabout for Traitors -- Kelly teams up with a thief to prove himself innocent of espionage charges levelled against him by a British agent. Filmed in Mexico.
Happy Birthday Everybody -- Kelly and Scotty must protect a retired agent (Jim Backus) and his family from Frank Hunter (Gene Hackman), a demolitions expert and escaped mental patient seeking revenge against the agent. Filmed in Mexico.
Shana -- Kelly and Scotty must prevent a woman (Gloria Foster) from trading top secret rocket fuel to the Communists in exchange for her brother. Filmed in Mexico.
The Name of the Game -- While checking security arrangements for the visit of a VIP, Kelly and Scotty become the prey in a deadly game of hide-and-seek with a fanatical general. Filmed in Mexico. Stars Lloyd Nolan.
Suitable for Framing -- Little do Kelly and Scotty know that the senator they're assigned to bodyguard in Mexico is actually a look-alike working for the enemy.
The Spy Business -- Kelly and Scotty are trying to keep a defector alive, while evidence suggests that Kelly's old friend, an Army Intelligence agent, is working with the enemy. Filmed in Mexico.
Carmelita Is One of Us -- A Mexican agent is killed and Kelly and Scotty inherit his baby daughter, who has now become the killers' new target.
Pinwheel --Kelly and Scotty are teamed up with a flighty female agent on an assignment to acquire details of the Soviets' espionage network in Africa. Filmed in Mexico.
If I have one gripe, it's the plastic casing. The DVDs are so tightly packed within it's easy to crack a disc, which I did after viewing the first 3 episodes on disc 1. So, be careful when removing the discs and opening the case.
